Details & FAQs About Our Change in Direction

1.   What is the “change in direction”, exactly?

The leadership and core families of South Bay Cornerstone have decided not to continue as a New Church Development of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).  We feel it is time to celebrate our years of ministry together and discontinue our adult emphasis.  Our youth and college emphasis will remain, primarily as 2 separate fellowship groups.

2.   How did this decision come about?

A survey was distributed to Cornerstone’s leaders and core family members.  With 13 out of 14 responses, we were able to examine the survey results, hold a discussion and draw this conclusion together.

3.   Who does it affect?

Mostly Cornerstone’s adults and young families, which means children under 12 years-old and adults over 25-30 years in age.

4.   When will the change take effect?

Our last combined worship service will be Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010.

5.   What will happen to the adult congregation?

For approximately 4 months, the adults will visit several churches in the South Bay area.  Churches will be visited up to 4 times.  Each week, the adults will share observations and give feedback to one another.  God willing, at the end of 4 months, the adults will be able to decide which church to begin attending regularly.

6.   What will happen with the youth and college students?

Rev. Bertram Wang will continue to provide leadership for both phases of Cornerstone’s change in direction—he will occasionally attend worship with the adults and provide feedback.  He will regularly facilitate the youth and college fellowship gatherings, as well as a modified Sunday worship service.

7.   Can I still be part Cornerstone during this time of transition?

Yes!  If you are an adult and would like to know where we are worshiping each week, please contact Bertram by e-mail.  Please provide your cell phone number and you will receive a text message announcing the location of the church we will be visiting the week prior to any given Sunday.  If you are a youth (6th-12th grade), you may stop by our current location on Friday nights, beginning at 7:30 pm or Sunday mornings at 9:45 am, if you are a youth or college student.

8.   Where can I get more information?

Bertram’s e-mail address is b [dot] cornerstone [at] yahoo [dot] com.
